DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge is located 25 miles north of Omaha, Nebraska on U.S. Highway 30, between Missouri Valley, Iowa and Blair, Nebraska. The visitor center is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, except federal holidays. For more information contact

An entrance permit is required for all vehicles. The daily entrance fee for private vehicles is $3.00. Permits may be obtained at the pay stations near the entrances or at the Visitor Center. The charge for commercial vans and buses is $20, or $30 if 21 or more people are aboard. Annual permits, including the $15 DeSoto Refuge Pass, can be obtained at the visitor center.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the principal Federal agency responsible for conserving, protecting and enhancing fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. The Service manages the 95-million-acre National Wildlife Refuge System, which encompasses 545 national wildlife refuges, thousands of small wetlands and other special management areas. It also operates 69 national fish hatcheries, 64 fishery resources offices and 81 ecological services field stations. The agency enforces federal wildlife laws, administers the Endangered Species Act, manages migratory bird populations, restores nationally significant fisheries, conserves and restores wildlife habitat such as wetlands, and helps foreign and Native American tribal governments with their conservation efforts. It also oversees the Federal Assistance program, which distributes hundreds of millions of dollars in excise taxes on fishing and hunting equipment to state fish and wildlife agencies.

Donate An Inscribed Brick To Be Placed At The Desoto Eagle Sculpture
Would you like to leave a enduring memorial around the DeSoto Eagle Sculpture at the entrance to the information center on DeSoto Wildlife Refuge? Would you like to see the name of a loved one or your own name etched in stone?
A new opportunity to leave a lasting remembrance around the DeSoto Eagle Sculpture has been opened to the public. The current paver bricks as well as new colored bricks can be inscribed with a dedication tribute and the name of an individual and imbedded around the statue.
The process is simple. Please fill out the form with all of the requested information including the tribute and name of person to be honored. Through the dedicated amount of the memorial gift, a paver brick will be selected and the listed
inscribed information will be completed. The projected time for completing the inscribing process is around 2-3 weeks. The brick(s) will then be placed by the Refuge staff in an appropriate location around the eagle statue.

Hunting Opportunities at Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge
Permits are still available for deer hunting at Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) for two Antlerless Deer hunts (Muzzleloader only). The hunts: Boyer Chute Early, will be held on October 12-13, 2008, and Boyer Chute Late, will be held on November 29-30, 2008. The permits will be sold on a first come, first-served basis. They will be sold online at https://ngpc-permits.ne.gov/NGPC-PS/faces/public/welcome and at the following Nebraska Game and Parks Commission permitting offices: Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium, Alliance, Bassett, Chadron State Park, Fort Robinson State Park, Kearney, Niobrara State Park, Norfolk, North Platte, Omaha, Lincoln, and Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area. Hunting will be allowed in designated areas following refuge-specific regulations and Nebraska G&PC regulations and licensing.
